SAN FRANCISCO -- Webb Simpson refused to think of himself as a U.S. Open champion until he sat with his nervous wife in a quiet corner of the locker room Sunday, staring in disbelief at a television... Read full story
It was good to have a good husband, family man and positive role model win this tournament. He expressed nice comments for the other competitors after his win, in contrast to Tiger who just talks about himself. Tiger is an angry narcssicist who has nothing in his life if he doesn't win. At 26 Webb has many more good years of being a factor in tournaments on Sunday, and someone that young golfers can look up to and emulate. 338 Days ago

I think this is lost on alot of Tiger fans who I believe to be on the young side
It's in the realm of it being "cool" to root for the bad boy. 338 Days ago

Hey Doug, yeah I'am a Tiger fan And the last 2 rounds were bad. Phil was bad all 4 rounds. I for one didn't say Tiger was going to win by huge margin. On that course nobody was!! You only mention Tiger and Phil. There were world class players who didn't make the cut and some of the ones who did in your words "sucked'. When you make comments like dik head slurpers and lover boys shows me what kind of childish IQ you have. Stand up and post like someone who is intelligent and not one who makes childish insults!!! 338 Days ago

It's 10:35 am est and webb simpson was just interviewed on golf channel's "morning Drive" and was asked if he felt like he was flying under the radar. His quote, "I like it like thar." Both the commentator and simpson agreed he flew under the radar. And so did a whole lot more of us. This to all those who responded to me yesterday around 10:30am.

Have to feel a little bad for Furyk and Els, once past the big 4-0 the door starts closing pretty fast. Great win for Simpson, though, it will be interesting to see if he can build on the victory and win a few more majors. 339 Days ago

Winning a few more majors is a bit of a stretch. Most players only win one. 338 Days ago

can we PLEASE stop crowning these guys (Kaymer, McIlroy, Simpson, et al) with multiple majors until they win at least tthe second one. 338 Days ago

True enough but Simpson is only 26 and certainly seems to have the game to win another, don't you think? 338 Days ago

The U.S. Open needs to be a difficult test but it needs to be fair too. When a player hits the front of the green it's ridiculous to have it so fast the ball rolls all the way to the back about 25 yards and off the green into thick nasty rough. 339 Days ago

Remember that the best golf is designed to be risk vs. reward.. do i play it safe or do i need to take a chance. It's the essence of what golf is. 338 Days ago

The entire field knows there is a false front on that green. Hit the right shot and your fine, get cute by going for the pin and pay the price. How is this any different that a short side bunker? 338 Days ago

Which state of affairs is better for golf?
63%
When a dominant player wins most of the events
37%
When events are split between many players
(Total votes: 43,955)

This poll shows not only that sports "fans" are idiots, it illustrates the horrible reporting and editing at ESPN. "Split between many players," huh ESPN? "Between"?

All I have to say is....it's nice to not see a European hosting the trophy....I'm tired of hearing how Americans golfers are inferior to the Europeans. 339 Days ago

Impressive performance by Simpson, 4 under the final 2 days after being 5 over the first 2.
Even though I was rooting for Furyk, still made for an exciting finish. 339 Days ago

Congrats to the USGA for an awesome US Open, and all the live coverage! My only suggestion is to start the final round earlier so they don't finish at sunset, as it gives a distinct disadvantage to the final pairings if it is clear, as it was on Saturday. Didn't matter on Sunday due to the fog, but it could have. Plus, the temperature change on Saturday made the last holes play longer for the final groups.
Loved the pressure, and loved seeing Webb Simpson win his first major, and hope many more are to come! 339 Days ago

Why were they saying that "bird-man" would be going to jail? Since when is gettin g in front of a camera and acting like a bird a jailable offense> He paid for his ticket so he wasn't tresspassing. 339 Days ago

I was wondering the same thing. Not like it's a field of play. Unless they have it on the back of the ticket that you're not allowed into areas marked I would think he already free as a bird... 339 Days ago

Why is Tiger Woods doing so badly playing golf. My theory is
1. Mentally---He still is not mentally back following all the personal stuff that went on
2. Muscle---- The bigger his arms got the more he had to change the way he swung the club for drives and when putting. He did not need the muscle to drive the ball farther and with all that muscle he is not as flexible. Are there any other "PUMPED UP"golfers playing on the tour right now.
3. Injuries---- He may not be injured but past injuries made him change his swing to the point that it seems to be broken now.
Tigers finished. 339 Days ago

One guy who deserves a shout out (so to speak) is Michael Thompson. Everyone on here thought and said that he would fade to black as the weekend wore on. Ended up tied for second just one shot from a playoff. 339 Days ago
