Wow, MSU sure did give beating an incredibly young UGA team who's kicker giftwrapped it for the Spartans a lot more credit than they should have

While Hollis has done a great job at MSU, let's not overstate something Brian. He didn't pioneer the idea of an outdoor game against UofM hockey. It had already been done in Lansing. They simply replayed it at The Big House....Not really pioneering when someone has done the same thing a few years before you...

I don't get your point. The fact that the outdoor game at UM followed an outdoor game at MSU does nothing to discredit Hollis. He has been a/the driving factor behind multiple college sports events that have gone on to be copied by other programs, such as the game at UM. The Carrier Classic was ALL his idea and now there will be a half dozen such copy cat games next year. He is an innovator and has kept a great coaching staff together in the two major sports. He deserves whatever recognition an AD can get.

he was the one who came up with the idea when he was working under AD Mason. "Hollis was the architect behind the Cold War, an outdoor ice hockey match-up between rivals Michigan State University and the University of Michigan played in 2001 that ended in a 3-3 tie" from Michigan States website..

Ya, lets not overstate here. MSU has made big strides in football, but if you look at recruiting, we're (fan) way behind UM and OSU.

Which is why he brought in Dantonio. He is a Izzo like coach who will win with less than the top talent. If MSU had the recruiting class of U of M, ND or OSU can you imagine how good they would be?

MSU has been behind UM and OSU in recruiting for the past 5 years.

Right move. Under Hollis, MSU has become elite in basketball, football, and hockey, as well as sports no one cares about...like wrestling.

They have gotten better in some sports yes, but since Izzo has been around they've been great at basketball. . .

Hollis has done the right thing to keep Izzo at MSU.

There were two competing factions regarding MSU's next coach after we got rid of SLappy. One school wanted Todd Grantham who was Cleveland's D-Coordinator at the time. I think he is at UGA now but could be wrong. THe other faction wanted Brian Kelly and we know where he ended up. The president of MSU threw out Dantonio's name as a compromise and luckily both sides agreed. I could be wrong but this is what was reported when he was hired when I was at MSU. As for Hollis, good to see him get rewarded. He has been a great AD.
