ATHENS, Ga. -- Before saying Friday it would not be recruiting Penn State players, Georgia gave notification to the Nittany Lions of 19 athletes whom the school's coaches planned to contact, on the s... Read full story

Please... Richt at a man gets an "A". As a coach he gets a "C". 323 Days ago

It will start paying off soon. Richt had to learn the tough lesson of firing coaches and friends as coaches. That process is completed and the rewards will be sugary sweet. 323 Days ago

Good move. Just because the NCAA allows it doesn't mean that it is the ethical thing to do. I think a lot of coaches respect the job that Bill O'Brein is trying to do and recognize that taking these players could doom his career as a head coach. It is something that is usually strictly forbidden and I think it just feels dirty to a lot of coaches. Some of it is a PR move also. Lane Kiffin being the first guy to jump in there even makes it seem more wrong. Go Dawgs, Roll Tide! 323 Days ago

Yeh, it would be terrible for teams to offer these kids the ability to play in a bowl game during their college career. Just awful. 323 Days ago

I hate Kiffin as much as the next guy but I don't think he's been bad about this. They're going after one guy who is interested in USC. 323 Days ago

Yet more evidence as to why Georgia, under the coaching of Mark Richt, will continue living in the basement of mediocrity. 323 Days ago

P.R. move by Richt as usual , trying to look like the guy he portrays.Only after the players told him they had no interest in georgia did he decide to "no longer recruit"Penn State players.
Whatever . 324 Days ago

After years of under-signing and a hideous rate of discipline-related attrition, Richt decides to stay classy. I am sure we don't need any depth, particularly on the OL or defensive backfield. And we don't need any experience at RB or big-play ability at WR. And how many starts do we have between kicker and punter? Thanks, Coach, for once again choosing not to do what is necessary to make sure we have enough quality players to win at a high level. Stay classy though. 324 Days ago

Yeah, all those top 5-10 recruiting classes Richt has brought in sure do blow 323 Days ago
Ghost of Quantrill
Not really sure how to interpret this turn of events. Are we turning away from an opportunity or pledging not to gut a football program. The back tracking does not look good though, whatever the intent. Was this Richt's decision to make? Not so sure...

Like many teams, I'm sure the UGA coaches scouted out some players that would fill needs. When asked whether they would they confirmed so much. I'm sure after speaking with the PSU coach that Coach Richt decided not pursuing them was the right thing to do out of respect for Coach O'Brien. This is me speculating of course, but I'd bet that's how it went down. Besides, the prospects for 30 (+) scholarships might be more intriguing than moving for out of state Big 10 players. Perhaps they don't see any of the players they think would fit. Again, speculation. 324 Days ago

awwe gee. Isnt he a stand up guy? GOD, Im getting sick and tired of Richts wholesome way of life!! everyone will give him admiration now for the time being, but watch all those folks come the end of the season and we are fighting a losing record, because another few starters turn stupid, and we end up having to use second and third stringers to fill gaps. so annoyed.. whichever one of yall said all we do is shake our heads is pretty spot on. you do realize that UGA has the toughest drug/alcohol policy in the SEC right? At Ole Miss players are allowed four chances involving drug and alcohol infractions. Also look at UF during the Meyer years. How many chances did Janoris Jenkins get? 323 Days ago
TheGoDawg
Just what are you going on about anyhow? You mad cause the coach is a "nice guy"?!? "Fighting a losing record"?!? Are you mad cause a couple players ran afoul and the coaches suspended them per university guidelines and that hurts the team? Are you mad that UGA has to use 2nd and 3rd stringers to play? Get a grip dude. It is what it is and if you don't like it, then run along now. 324 Days ago

Blame the AD and coaching staff for actually disciplining players, unlike the South Carolina's, Tennessee's, Arkansas', Bama's, LSU's and Auburn's of the world. 323 Days ago
hunker1980
I am mad because the players don't seem to be afraid of getting in trouble. It seems we have had a lot more key suspensions in big games and transfers from the program than our competitors. It has been this way for years. If you look at the number of scholarship players that we have (not counting walk-ons who were given scholarships when others left), it is like we are on severe probation. Who SHOULD we blame? 324 Days ago

I am looking forward to Spurrier & the Gamecocks running all over the Bulldoggies in Columbia this fall! 324 Days ago
PhelpsIsSuchADbag
Keep dreaming. Spurrier knows he's in trouble that game since it's not the second week of the season and odds are UGA won't be sitting their best players as usual when they normally face the C-0-C-K heads 323 Days ago

If you don't think the Dawgs have the Gamecocks circled on their calender then you're in a bubble. This will be a helluva game, NOT a run over. GO DAWGS!!! 324 Days ago

There's more to college than winning national championships, but apparently many SEC fans don't realize that college has anything to do with football.

In honor of the Presidential election season, UGA and Mark Richt have decided to flip flop on the issue of recruiting PSU players. We steadfastly refuse to recruit PSU players, after we recruited PSU players. 325 Days ago

I think it has more to do with Coach Richt having respect for PSU's current coaching staff and players who are going to try to coach past this insanely criminal PSU history. O'Brien himself said it would be fine if other teams recruited his players but that he would like a courtesy call from the head coach. 324 Days ago
Kyle-G13
Well if you are going to recruit the players then call a spade a spade. It would appear that UGA did try to recruit PSU players but then after the fact came out with this announcement that they are above doing it. 324 Days ago

Six top PSU recruits just reaffirmed their commitment to Penn State this week-end, seems like it never was "all about football" there in Happy Valley, or they'd be long gone. 325 Days ago

Here is the problem with your statement, sages, it wasn't all about football for the players. It WAS all about football for Joe Pa. If you think for one sec he cared about those football players you are wrong. 325 Days ago
